I have 8.5 inch wrists and the 45.5mm was too big. I bought it thinking that it was the better of the 2 choices as the 42mm seems so small. But for longevity purposes, the 42 wins in my books no problem.
I'd say that you should identify with what kind of watch you want. This mentality has taken me 10 years or so but I think I've finally got it figured out.
These things are meant to outlast you in terms of lifetime, so buy for YOUR life. Identify what it is that you want to have on your wrist for a long time.
I don't want to be wearing a dudley lock-sized watch on my wrist when I'm old and grey, and to be honest, the 42mm po is a bit heavy and sits high too.
For me, the PO wins in looks hands down, but for a nice water-resistant, sporty and dressy watch, I'd go for the Railmaster or AT 8500 which looks amazing.
The PO looks amazing too, just that the added weight and height don't do anything for me.
So, my advice is to not listen to anyone on here, myself including, and follow your own ideal of what you need in a watch. Don't try to 'round out a collection' and add a watch that normally doesn't make you weak in the knees just because you don't have that type of watch in your collection already. Ie. if you love chronographs, buy chronographs; don't think that you already have enough chronographs so buy a 3-hand watch only.
For comfort, I like to judge my watch on whether or not I can wear it to bed and have a good sleep, and still want to wear the watch in the morning. Many watches I want to rip off as soon as I wake up because my wrist is sore/sweaty/etc.
The PO failed for me in this respect for 2 reasons.
1. Too thick/heavy - I sleep on my stomach with my hand under my pillow and the PO was too cumbersome.
2. AR coating - I was worried about scratching it.
I've identified that I like water-resistant chronographs with display backs. But I also really like the new AT 8500 as a dressier watch. What do you want in a watch?
